About

Dr Ran Peleg is a Lecturer in Science Education within the Southampton Education School and a member of the MSHE (Mathematics, Science and Health Education) research group.

Ran’s work focuses on different genres aimed at enhancing science learning such as the use of theatre, drama, storytelling and games.

Before joining the Southampton Education School, Ran gained significant experience in educational project management and instructional design working on a range of educational projects amongst them the EU funded TEMI project which introduced storytelling into scientific enquiry, several escape room projects which harness the power of escape games for internal motivation to learn science and a STEAM project which introduces students to interdisciplinary links between STEM subjects and the arts.

Ran holds a BA in Natural Sciences and an MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge. His PhD in science education from the Technion focused on learning science in informal (free-choice) environments, specifically museum theatre. He was a Fellow of the Mandel Scholars in Education programme for distinguished Ph.D. students and received a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Haifa to research computerised instructional tools for blind students in the Division of Technologies in Education.

Apart from his academic interests, Ran also trained as a dancer, actor and a mime-artist, all of which he incorporates into his teaching.
