The quality of teaching seemed excellent, the campus was lovely, the facilities were great, and it seemed to be an institution that had many ways to help me grow and expand as a person.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

I was amazed at how many opportunities were on offer that I could get involved in. The quality of teaching seemed excellent, the campus was lovely, the facilities were great, and it seemed to be an institution that had many ways to help me grow and expand as a person.

What’s it like studying here?

Studying at Southampton is great! My course gets me thinking about new ideas all the time, and the lecturers are so dedicated to helping you progress and making sure that you can learn different aspects of each topic.

Lecturers are always putting forwards new ideas/ new research, and they always provide extra readings so that you can read further into the topic. I have also developed a huge number of transferable skills that will help me going forward in the real world.

There is also a huge range of support on offer for if you ever feel like you are suffering. E.g. you are assigned to a personal tutor who is always willing to speak about any issues you may be going through.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

The thing I am enjoying most is the wide variety of knowledge I am gaining each day. I come away from lectures wanting to go home and research further into the topic, and this is the case every day. The way that lectures are delivered makes you question new things and actually want to expand your knowledge.

My main highlight was being offered a paid internship for a month over the summer. This was something that was arranged by the university and put on the careers website (and there are so many different ones with lots of places available). I was amazed that working in a prison was something that I could do through the university. I have also loved joined many different societies (Psychology, yoga, Zumba, MIND mental health and many others). It’s great to meet new people whilst also doing things that you’re interested in.
