Global population growth

Research conducted within the Centre for Risk Research has recently been highlighted across the globe by a range of online media agencies. The research, conducted by Dr. Ian Dawson and Professor Johnnie Johnson, concerns public perceptions of the challenges associated with global human population growth.

The research was first reported in a paper titled 'Does Size Matter? A Study of Risk Perceptions of Global Population Growth' in the international journal Risk Analysis. Subsequently, the publishing division of the Society for Risk Analysis produced a press release to help promote the research findings to a wider audience. Since then, the research has been reported by over 100 different news agencies worldwide, including media groups in Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, Italy, Germany, the UK and by online media sites in most US states.

Full details of the research project and the findings, including comments by Dr Ian Dawson, can be found at: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/news/2016/03/world-population.page
