In April 2016, Dr Ian Dawson and Dr Mario Brito from the Centre for Risk Research (CRR) met with Jane Rumble, Head of the Polar Regions Department at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, to discuss potential future research collaborations.

Jane Rumble’s visit to the CRR was organized as part of the Policy Fellowship Programme, which aims to improve communication between policy makers and academics. Jane’s particular interest was to understand academics views on issues such as the social benefits and economic impacts of polar exploration and to identify practical and impactful ways for policy-makers and academics to work together. The discussions also addressed issues such as risk perception and risk analysis and management.

Ian Dawson commented "The meeting with Jane was extremely informative and enjoyable. Jane has a wealth of experience and knowledge regarding the risks and benefits of commerical, scientific and conservation activities in the Polar Regions and our discussions highlighted a number of potential avenues for future research."
