In the Southampton Education School, we have a range of undergraduate courses to suit your background and career aspirations.
If your interests are in the wider aspects of education, you will want to look at our BSc (Hons) Education degree and its joint honours Education and Psychology counterpart. In each case, you can explore topics such as education from an international perspective, social justice and inclusion, and digital literacy, as well as gaining a strong grounding in research methods. With a flexible curriculum, the Education degree can be mixed and matched with modules from other disciplines. The Education and Psychology degree enables you to combine your study of the two disciplines, and is accredited by the British Psychological Society as providing Graduate Basis for Chartership with the Society.
These are three year, full-time courses, suitable for applicants with A levels.
Typical career paths after graduation might include social and educational research, education-related work in the community or with charities. If you follow a specific path within the Education and Psychology degree you will also be able to pursue a career in the full range of psychology professions. You would also have the option to move into primary (BSc Education), secondary or FE teaching (BSc Education and Psychology) with our range of PGCE or School Direct courses.
The International Foundation Year programme is aimed at students from a variety of backgrounds from outside the UK/EU. It offers preparation for progression to year one of an undergraduate degree programme in either Education or another discipline.
Southampton is one of the few universities to offer an accredited psychology degree and education as a joint honours. This combination of subjects worked perfectly for me.
