Professor Joanna Sofaer (FSA) is a Professor of Archaeology within Archaeology at the University of Southampton.

Alongside her role as Co-Director of the Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities, she is Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) Knowledge Exchange and Impact Fellow (Public Spaces Programme) and Director of Archaeology for the Creative Industries. Her current research focuses on the role of the historic environment in wellbeing, the past as inspiration for contemporary creative practice, and creativity in prehistoric material culture. She has directed and partnered on several high-profile international research projects. She has extensive experience of bridging academic and non-academic worlds, including work with civic and regional partners in the arts, heritage, and creative industries. She is author of over 160 publications.
