GerontologyPart of Economic, Social & Political SciencePostgraduate study

We offer two programmes: the PhD Gerontology and the Integrated PhD Gerontology.

The PhD Gerontology is normally completed after three years of full-time registration (or six years of part-time registration). Students on this programme are expected to have completed a postgraduate programme in Gerontology or related social science discipline with a significant element of research methods training.

The full-time Integrated PhD Gerontology is normally completed within four years, and is made up of 9 months of taught modules followed by a three-month Transitional Project, before the student proceeds to the research element of the programme for the remaining three years. The part-time version of the programme normally takes 7 years to complete. Applicants who do not possess a postgraduate programme along the lines described above are strongly encouraged to consider this option.

I have greatly enjoyed my time at Southampton, particularly the supportive environment provided by the CRA and Social Sciences.
