Professor Ian Sinclair is Professor of Materials Engineering within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Ian Sinclair obtained his BA(Hons) in the Materials Science and Metallurgy Departments at Cambridge University in 1984, where he went on to obtain a PhD in fatigue in Al-SiCp metal matrix composites under the supervision of Prof. John Knott. In 1991 he took a post-doctoral fellowship at Southampton working with Prof. Gregson on a wide range of fatigue and fracture problems in high strength Al airframe materials in close collaboration with BAe Airbus. He was appointed Senior Research Fellow in 1996, Lecturer in 1997, a Readership in 2004 and then Professor in 2006. He has been a member of the IMechE Aerospace Materials TAC, and is currently a member of the IoM Metal Matrix Composites Committee.
