Southampton is a wonderful place to study. I have massively enjoyed taking part in the student societies, and living with friends is also very fun. The transition from college to University is considerable, but most people adapt. The freedom and responsibility is unlike anything before.

My time at Southampton has helped me grow in confidence. Presentation for projects seem daunting at first but once you complete a few, you can do 100! Uni has also helped improve my critical analysis skills, e.g. questioning where the information is coming from, what are the actual statistics etc.

I chose to study at Southampton Business School because it was highly ranked for Marketing, and offered the unique combination with study abroad which not many other universities offered. I’ve particularly enjoyed the consumer psychology side of things, for example why do people buy the way they do, and how personalities can affect buying decisions etc.

I’m still undecided on what I’d like to do after I graduate, but I’m eyeing up something in journalism or marketing for a social enterprise.

My main advice for students is to get involved – I would have never thought I’d enjoy salsa before Uni but it turns out I can’t turn down some Cuban rhythm!

Charlie also writes for the Life at Southampton blog – read one of his most popular articles, ‘Quotes to get you through student life’.
