Life Sciences community

Life Sciences have great potential to be an outstanding sector for innovation and growth across the South and for the UK. The Life Sciences Industrial Strategy has informed a Sector Deal, with life sciences relevant to all four of the UK Industrial Strategy Grand Challenges: Growing the AI and Data-Driven Economy, Clean Growth, The Future of Mobility and Ageing Society.

Life Sciences is one our greatest strengths:

Here at the University of Southampton, we are well-placed to take advantage of these opportunities. Life Sciences at Southampton is defined as all areas of academic pursuit which enhance our understanding or management of life. Over 700 principal investigators and their teams across all faculties of the University engage in life sciences research, education and enterprise. Over a two year period life sciences awards accounted for more than half of all new research income to the University.

Apart from excellence, our unique selling point is that we are a collaborative community, recognised externally for our strength in interdisciplinary research. The societal challenges we face cannot be solved by working in silos: we must continue breaking down barriers between disciplines such that investigators can flow to the opportunities.
