About
Davide is a Professor of Human Thermal Physiology, and he is internationally recognised as a leading expert in the neurophysiology of human skin temperature and wetness sensing. He has >10 years of experience in conducting human research in healthy and clinical groups such as multiple sclerosis patients.
In 2017, Davide founded the THERMOSENSELAB, a laboratory that specialises in basic and applied research in human thermosensing and thermoregulation in health and disease, and which is now part of the Skin Sensing Research Group at the University of Southampton, which Davide co-leads with Professor Pete Worsley.
Davide’s research has a strong enterprise ethos, and he believes that major advances in skin and health care can arise from bridging the gap between academia and industry. For example, he has collaborated with global sport clothing manufacturers to map regional differences in skin sensing across the body, to inform the design of sport clothing that improve thermal comfort for female athletes. Also, he has co-operated with global goods manufacturers to model the biophysics and physiology of wetness on the skin, to improve the design of absorbency products and anti-perspirant deodorants for babies and adults. Davide has also acted as the Director of Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise (KEE) for the School of Health Sciences (3-y term), where he developed the School's first KEE strategy.
As a balanced-portfolio academic, Davide is passionate about driving innovation in research- and enterprise-informed education. Over his teaching career, Davide has developed a portfolio of interdisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate education delivery at international Higher Education (HE) institutions such as Loughborough University (UK), the University of California at Berkely (USA), the University of Sydney (AUS), and the University of Palermo (Italy).
