Ocean and Earth Science

The goal of our undergraduate programmes at Ocean and Earth Science is to produce graduates who are well equipped to enter employment in not only a wide range of science professions, but also in other spheres. Our courses are designed with this in mind, with emphasis on both academic merit and skills and qualities sought by employers. We offer degree programmes that cover an extensive range of subjects, including theory-based courses and applied science, which provide the opportunity to work independently on challenging projects.

We offer a relaxed and informal atmosphere and a stimulating environment in which to learn and acquire skills relevant to your scientific career.  We place considerable importance on generic skills, such as computing, communication, teamwork and problem solving. For these reasons our degrees are a passport to vocational and non-vocational careers alike. By following the research of world-class scientists, students can keep pace with developments at the forefront of our knowledge for the Earth and it's oceans.

As a result, we are highly rated by our students.  Many of our degree programmes achieve excellent results in the annual National Student Survey (NSS) in teaching, enthusiasm for the course and how intellectually stimulating the courses are. Learning resources and facilities also consistently achieve high results thanks to the fantastic location of our Waterfront Campus, at the world renowned research centre the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS).
