Postdoctoral opportunities

We conduct educational research of the highest quality, with high impact on policy and practice at local, national and international levels. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise assessors praised our high and increasing research student numbers, high doctoral completion rates, increased research council funding and strong commitment to build on an active research culture involving staff and students. The School has been very successful in winning prestigious funding for PhDs such as SCDTP and Presidential scholarships.

ESRC Recognition for our Research Training

We have been successful in obtaining recognition for our research training from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Recognition involves meeting strict criteria for research student recruitment, training and support. It is recognition that our research training is in line with ESRC guidelines in terms of outcomes, career pathway support, as well as generic training skills and specific methodological techniques.

We accept ESRC students on +3, 3+1, CASE, and Professional Doctorates. Eligible applicants can apply for ESRC funding to support them to undertake such courses as our: MSc's, PhD, MPhil in Research Methodology, Doctorate of Education, and Integrated PhD.

We are happy to accept applications from students applying to the ESRC Open Scholarship Competition. Students who already have an MA or MSc including a substantial element of research training can apply for a full-time funded PhD. (+3 route).
