The University of Southampton
Centre for Risk Research

PhD programme

The academic staff at the Centre for Risk Research (CRR) have knowledge, experience and skills in a wide range of disciplines. This enables the CRR to offer PhD supervision across a broad spectrum of risk-related areas, including interdisciplinary topics.

Our PhD students are provided with training in research methodology and are offered the chance to attend units from any of our MSc programmes that may help with their research. They are also encouraged to take an active role in the risk-related research activities within Southampton Business School, including, for example, attending CRR seminars and providing short presentations of their work.

There are currently over 30 students studying for risk-related PhDs in the CRR, each of whom is benefitting from the supervisory skills and interdisciplinary expertise of the Centre's members. Our PhD programme is entirely research-oriented, leading to a wide spectrum of career options. Many of our students are funded by a UK research council, overseas governments, private companies or the University itself.
