Jamie Kelly MSci Geology, 2018
Undergraduate student

I have taken fieldtrips to Tenby, Wales and Ingleton, North Yorkshire. Both of these were fantastic and a real learning curve. My best memory has to be the Geological Society trip to Italy in 2015.
The teaching staff are approachable, friendly and helpful. They provide excellent tuition and are more than willing to help outside the classroom. Two tutors are provided for you so should any real problems arrive you have two points of contact. The facilities are brilliant with plenty of quiet rooms and computer rooms. The library is open 24 hours a day on the main campus and the student centre is a great place to relax. The range of rock samples and fossils is excellent and have made the modules interesting as I’m gaining a fuller understanding of applying the skills I am being taught.
In the future, my goal is to work in the minerals industry, specifically looking at ore deposits. I then want to use that knowledge to present geology and science documentaries. I have a passion for education and want to communicate the importance of geology. If I could give one piece of advice to new students, it would be believe in yourself. Immerse yourselves in your degree and societies; you will come away from university with the best experience you’ll ever have.
