Robotics and autonomous systems research

Welcome to our robotics and autonomous systems research case studies

Drone coming in to land

We have a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community with expertise in unmanned vehicles, ranging from underwater vehicles to high altitude vehicles and rotary winged aircraft. We are developing new ways in which we can design robotic platforms, including making use of advanced additive manufacturing technologies and designing for reduced environmental impact. We also have research activities in the design of automated control systems with the goal of enhancing the real-world usability of robotic systems through enabling beyond visual line of sight operations.

Robotics and artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionise the way we observe the environment from the seafloor to space and we are at the forefront of this research. It can bring a step change in the way we monitor our infrastructure, our cities and our crops and it may change the way in which we move goods and people around the globe.
