Why did you choose to take up a PhD at Southampton? Was it a good choice?

I chose to undertake a PhD at Southampton because of the strong academic reputation and opportunities for work experience associated with studying at the Southampton University and the National Oceanography Centre.

I believe it was a good choice because I feel I receive the necessary support, training and possibilities for personal development that will enable me to obtain a PhD.

What is the best thing about doing a PhD at Southampton?

At the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), you have access to world class expertise, equipment, software and training. You have opportunities to develop a broad set of skills in areas that interest you, including demonstrating, field work, topic specific analytical techniques, plus the ability to become involved in activities outside of your disciple for example, via volunteering on cruises or, outreach.

What has been your standout highlight of the course so far?

Meeting experts within my field.

What do you want to do in the future?

Continue to contribute to furthering our understanding of marine habitats and methods used to survey them either in an academic, government or consultancy framework.

What advice would you give to students hoping to follow in your footsteps?

Take the opportunity to become involved in voluntary work of your chosen discipline.
