Relationship between the teaching, learning and assessment methods and the planned learning outcomes
In this module learning and teaching activities focus on helping you to develop study skills through which you can explore a set outcome specific to the study of fashion design. You will participate in a variety of technical workshop, which are designed to develop your ability to apply basic fashion design techniques and processes through which you can experiment and explore further.
Lectures will develop your understanding of key themes in the study of fashion design and will further your awareness of how to contextualise, present, record and evaluate your outcomes. Seminars and group critiques will allow you to reflect on and discuss the key fashion ideas and concepts you have learned about and their influence on your practical work and that of others.
Tutorials will help you review your progress in the module. Informal feedback in a studio setting will provide opportunities for peer group learning and self-evaluation.
You will be taught by a module staff team in studio sessions, lectures and technical workshops timetabled across the week. When taught time is not scheduled to take place you are expected to work independently in the studio on work for your project and your assessment. Your independent study is crucial to your development and positive achievement in this module. The work and outcomes of your independent study will be discussed in tutorials and group critiques.

Assessment
Assessment strategy
This module is credit bearing. The module will need to be passed in order to progress to Part 1 Year 2 of your programme.
The summative (marked) assessment of your work will be by the presentation of a portfolio. The work presented in your portfolio will demonstrate your experimental engagement with both the topics and specialist subject workshops and the development of your design experimentation and the realisation of your final design outcomes. The portfolio must be clearly labelled and should include for example sketchbooks, drawings, photographic references, samples, other visual experiments.
Formative feedback (not marked) to enable you to progress and evidence your ideas and skills will be given during tutorials, seminars and group discussions.
