EDUC3032 Assignment 2

Module Overview

The outcomes of this module will comprise: a) a written summary including research findings, a discussion in relation to literature and conclusion with implications for classroom practice b) an 'intervention’ which outlines how the student will place the chosen aspect under scrutiny.

Module Aims

To enable the student to present the outcomes of a practice-based investigation into a particular aspect/topic of their teaching within their specific subject area (e.g. English, Geography etc.).

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • How an educational issue is presented in practice in a classroom situation.
  • Analysing and evaluating the differences and similarities between theory and practice.
  • Using appropriate methodology in your own research.
  • Presenting research in an appropriate written format.
  • An issue that is central to your subject specialism.

Syllabus

The syllabus content will be determined by both the subject specialism which the student is following and the particular aspect that the student identifies for their assessment. Generic content will focus upon how writers present their research findings, how they discuss research in relation to existing literature, and how to write Master’s level.

This module is only available to those students enrolled on an ITT PGCE programme

Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching is usually by a range of lectures, small group seminars and individual tutorials. Trainees are expected to spend time (approximately 135 hours) researching this assignment as individuals.

Assessment

Assessment Strategy

Must be passed at Undergraduate level, but below Masters Level – between 40%-49%. This is the referral module for EDUC6355. This module is not subject to anonymous marking, as topics chosen relate to a specific trainee's teaching practice and the individual is therefore identifiable.

Students are responsible for meeting the cost of essential textbooks, and of producing such essays, assignments, laboratory reports and dissertations as are required to fulfil the academic requirements for each programme of study.

Costs for this module are noted under the Teaching Modules for ITE programmes. Trainees are expected to read approximately 10 texts for this assignment, but these can be borrowed cost-free from libraries / schools / Tutors etc. (books)
