Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of what the Acheulean technocomplex is.
- You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the hominins that are responsible for the Acheulean.
- You will have an understanding of the spread of genus Homo throughout the Old World during this period.
Syllabus
This module will cover the archaeology of the Old World from 2.0 mya to 0.3 mya. Primarily we will look at 2 hominin species (Homo erectus and Homo heidelbergensis) and the Acheulean techno complex that was their material culture. This is a key period in human evolution seeing the foundations from which Homo sapiens may emerge.
Learning and Teaching
Teaching and learning methods
The teaching will comprise a mix of delivery methods, including lectures and student led presentations. Some workshops may be included if circumstances permit.
We are aiming to deliver a significant amount of your teaching face to face, blended with online learning, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. In which case the delivery could comprise an increased element of online learning, or move to entirely online if face to face teaching is not possible or advisable.'
