CHEM6141 Advanced Topics in Inorganic Chemistry

Module Overview

The module aims to broaden students’ grasp of the current literature in inorganic chemistry. Hence, a series of research level lectures on different aspects of inorganic chemistry will be presented, each with directed reading based around review articles or book chapters, and the assessments aim to give opportunities to further interrogate the research areas.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • Bring together presented material and written sources to provide a succinct account of a current topical aspect of an unfamiliar area of research in inorganic chemistry.
  • Research the literature in an unfamiliar area of inorganic chemistry to identify topical research directions and develop a proposal for a new project to further advance one of these directions.
  • Present a summary of a topical research area in inorganic chemistry to an audience of academic staff and your peer group.


A series of research-level topics in inorganic chemistry – the exact selection of topics a will vary each year as new research areas become topical.

Teaching and learning methods

Weekly double lectures presented by a selection of staff members to introduce topical areas of inorganic chemistry. Directed reading and suggestions for how to research the literature to find further relevant information.
