Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- The genesis of Pakistan.
- Political power struggles in contemporary Pakistani and Iranian history.
- The causes of the Iranian Revolution and its aftermath.
Pakistan was created in the name of Islam when the British departed from India in 1947. Iran emerged as an Islamic Republic following the 1979 Revolution. The module will explore the genesis of Pakistan and the background to the Iranian Revolution and its consolidation examining the motivations and objectives of those involved at these crucial junctures not only in the countries’ histories, but in that of the wider Islamic world. It will also trace the complex development of Pakistan and Iran and shed light on the political power struggles in the two countries leading up to the contemporary era.

Teaching and learning methods
The current intention is to deliver teaching for this module online. If circumstances allow, some form of blended delivery methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops, or individual tutorials may be introduced if it is safe for all concerned to do so. However, delivery will remain entirely online if face to face teaching is not possible or advisable.
