ARTD3037 Professional Planning and Evaluation

Module Overview

We know that undertaking a BA in Fashion Marketing / Management is part of a larger career plan and this module is designed to equip you with all the necessary tools to maximize your success in reaching your goals. The professional planning module focuses on career planning and developing your employability profile, identifying career options – matching your qualifications to opportunities in work and further study, writing CVs and applications, plus advice on how to succeed at interviews and with graduate training scheme assessment days. The module runs alongside your final major project, as such you will be given advice and teaching on how to present and communicate work effectively to public audiences e.g. programme graduate events, WSA degree show.

Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • how to locate your work within an appropriate professional and commercial fashion marketing context;
  • an in-depth knowledge of the area of fashion marketing in which you intend to work;
  • how to prepare a professional Curriculum Vitae and concise business plan aligned to your intended career path in fashion marketing.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • demonstrate confident reflection and evaluation in exploring ideas, developing skills and preparing materials;
  • critically reflect on your progress and studies with an accomplished level of analysis and synthesis;
  • formulate reasoned responses to the critical judgements of others.
Transferable and Generic Skills

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • demonstrate the ability to communicate, with authority, to audiences in a range of situations through visual, oral and written formats;
  • increase your confidence and personal presentation in preparation for interviews;
  • provide opportunities for you to prepare for the presentation of your Final Fashion Marketing Project to public audiences.
Subject Specific Practical Skills

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • consolidate your awareness and knowledge of business, financial, legal and technological matters relevant to your future in fashion marketing;
  • promote reflective and professional planning in your fashion marketing ‘portfolio’ selection, personal presentation and the production of other promotional material including an online portfolio, Curriculum Vitae and business card;
  • prepare for an interview, evaluating your strengths and weaknesses in relation to your intended career in Fashion Marketing.


This module enables you to build on the knowledge and skills previously acquired, in a manner directly related to your own personal and professional aspirations. Through seminars, presentations and mock interviews, the module provides you with an opportunity to define your professional goals, analyse your skills and exploit your strengths to target your research in to the fashion marketing career market. You will receive feedback on mock interviews, personal presentations, graduate and employability skills and how to target your ‘portfolio’ and personal planning and development towards potential employers and organisations. Using your learning journal as a tool, you will be encouraged to create a personal database of contacts and relevant information for your future career and set out realistic objectives for progression into employment or postgraduate study such as building networks, business contacts and refining your interpersonal skills The Professional Planning and Evaluation module is studied concurrently with your Final Fashion Marketing Project and is designed to support you in the development of your professional judgement and awareness for employment or postgraduate study.

Travel Costs for placements

External industry visitors will be invited to support the interview of students as part of the assessment methodology, which may incur a cost. Opportunities may be identified for students to visit key organisations, conferences r or brand head offices, these field trips would need to be funded by the student
