Module overview

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provides the tools for spatial data capture, editing, processing, analysis and presentation (in map and online output formats). This course provides the basics of the GIS environment and the functional requirements for analysing data, linking attribute tables to geography and displaying, querying and analysing data from the geographic interface. Practical examples and exercises will be drawn from real-world case studies on the use of social science data (e.g. census) and relating data to outputs areas, sampling regimes etc.
