Learn how to use immense computational power to solve engineering challenges and improve people's lives. You'll explore the cutting-edge software used to design complex technologies and learn how to code your own models and simulations.

Design is a crucial factor in the engineering industries. This course provides a solid foundation in mechanical engineering along with specialist knowledge in the growing fields of computational engineering and engineering design.

You'll gain practical experience with our design workshops and studios. You'll do a variety of design projects during the degree, from line launchers to responsive systems.

As part of this course you can:

  • use our range of engineering facilities
  • showcase your work in our annual Engineering Design Show
  • choose to study specialist areas, including aircraft structural design and orthopaedic biomechanics
  • go on site visits to experience engineering in practice

You'll put your skills into practice with an individual project and final year group design project, where you can work with students from other engineering specialisms.

We're a designated university for the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS).

Year in industry
