Module overview
This module is studio and workshop based, and aims to develop your textile design skills and advance your design ideas through in-depth exploration of concepts, which combine self-expression and creativity to help you to identify your personal strengths and interests. This aims to enhance key skills essential to creative development and future practice; and extend your ability to communicate your ideas and design concepts to a professional standard.
There will be set projects that are supported by weekly sessions in both Group and Individual format. These sessions include research for design, sketchbook and design development, peer review and portfolio building. You will participate in and develop skills through individual and group tutorials, workshops and online resources.
The projects are also supported with technical sessions in a wide variety of printing workshops incorporating new and traditional techniques.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- explore a variety of textile practices such as screen-printing & fabric dyeing to develop your portfolio and demonstrate subject specific skills.
Syllabus
Typically projects are set during the module as an introduction to your study at WSA and to extend your conceptual and technical research towards the creation, communication and presentation of textile design collections.
This module encourages your individual understanding of how to advance your ideas. It aims to develop your design work, in all areas, including drawing, mark making, research skills and development of sketchbooks, which will form the basis of your engagement with the programme.
You will engage with and aim to develop your oral and presentation skills, critical and analytical skills, as well as communication, organisational and time management skills.
We work closely with the Technical Support Team to ensure you are supported practically within the Print & Dye Room and with the CAD Facilities.
Group and individual tutorials are delivered to support your design work, critical and analytical skills, as well as communication and presentation skills.
You will receive timely feedback, evaluating your work and commenting on your achievement.
