About this course

Examine Spanish cultures of the past and present while taking a step back in time on this Ancient History and Spanish BA course. You’ll spend your third year abroad practising your language skills and experiencing a different culture. This combined degree can help prepare you for a variety of careers, including translation, media, museum curation or teaching in the UK or abroad.

You'll learn in an engaging, supportive and highly successful research environment.

You’ll have the choice of a wide range of topics from Ancient Egypt to the rise of Islam in the Middle East. You can also explore what happened during the conquests of Alexander the Great and at the end of the Roman Empire.

You’ll gain a deep understanding of the Spanish language and its context of production, history and society. You'll also explore Spanish cultures.

You'll spend year 3 in a country where Spanish is spoken. You may choose to be an English language assistant (British Council), study at a university (Erasmus) or be employed through an approved work placement.

In this course, you can:

  • benefit from leading experts in fields related to the ancient world (including history, archaeology, ancient and modern languages and literatures, philosophy and film)

  • study linguistics and language patterns

  • get the chance to learn Latin and Ancient Greek
